The Open Access method requires no action from the institution to allow students access to Blackboard Sync. With no effort on your part, students can install the end-user applications (Blackboard Learn for the Facebook Platform, Blackboard Learn for the Apple iPhone and Blackboard Learn Toolbar), provide the necessary credentials, and start getting access to their own Blackboard data from the external service or device.
Because the Open Access method does not use the Blackboard Sync Building Block for user authentication, storing the user credentials is necessary to enable Blackboard Sync to retrieve the user's content from the Blackboard Learning System. (More on storing credentials)
If your institution has concerns with the user credentials being stored in the Blackboard Sync central service, you should install the Blackboard Sync Building Block or opt your institution out of Blackboard Sync altogether.
