The address should be the one that you typically enter to get to your Blackboard server and/or the first part of the address that is displayed in the browser address bar when you are in Blackboard.
For example, if when you are logged into Blackboard you see something like this in your browser address bar:
If you have trouble figuring out this URL, you should ask your local campus administrator or help desk for assistance.
2. After adding my schools server URL, I cannot login and I get the following message "Invalid username and password"?
Your institution may be using a separate authentication system, instead of the default Blackboard authentication.
Some institutions take this approach so that users have one identity that they use for Blackboard, email, the campus network, and other university technology services. In these situations, the Blackboard Learn Toolbar for Internet Explorer and Firefox does not have a way to interact with that separate authentication service to confirm the identity of the end user.
If this is the case, then your Blackboard system administrator will need to install an extension on the Blackboard server to enable authentication to occur.
3. I just entered my server URL, but it says "your institute is blocking sync for Blackboard"?
The error message indicates that your institution has made the decision not to allow its users to sync Blackboard information to the Blackboard Learn Toolbar for Internet Explorer and Firefox. You will not be able to use the toolbar with your courses for your school.
This is the institution's decision. Should you wish to encourage your institution to reverse that decision, you will need to take up the matter with your institution's Blackboard system administrator or your institution's help desk
4. What version of Blackboard is required and How do I know if the Toolbar works with my school?
The Blackboard Learn Toolbar for Internet Explorer and Firefox requires release 7.1 or higher of Blackboard Learn (formerly known as Blackboard Academic Suite or Blackboard Learning System).
NOTE: The Blackboard Learn Toolbar for Internet Explorer and Firefox is not supported on the Vista and CE licenses (the former WebCT products). As customers with the Vista and CE licenses upgrade to Blackboard Learn, Release 9 or later, this application will become available to them. If you are unable to locate the version of Blackboard your institution has licensed, you can obtain this information by contacting your local system administrator.
Blackboard Inc. can't tell you whether your institution has blocked access to the Toolbar or not - that is an institutional decision.
Blackboard advises you to either try to configure the Toolbar to access your institution's Blackboard system, or to ask your institution's Blackboard system administrator or help desk.
5. What is my pin # and how do I obtain one?
If the Blackboard Learn Toolbar for Internet Explorer and Firefox requests a PIN, then this means that your institution has decided that you must authenticate into Blackboard first to identify yourself, instead of entering your username and password in the Toolbar settings.
(Note: Not all institutions require a PIN to configure the Blackboard Learn Toolbar for Internet Explorer and Firefox. You only need a PIN if the Toolbar specifically prompts you for one.)
You should open a browser, and log in to your Blackboard system as you usually do. On the main page, you will likely see a Tools Panel on the left. In that you should see a "Blackboard Sync" link. Click the "Blackboard Sync" link and follow the instructions to be issued a PIN by your institution's Blackboard server.
